Usually it is very difficult to get time from the hectic classroom sessions at the Academy, but this year, from 2 to 4 of March 2012, PDM 11 and PDM 12 students got permission to participate in a management festival, Yukti 2012, organised by Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM), Madurai. Yukti 2012 was a special occasion because the event was unique, the stage was vibrant with competition, performers were highly enthusiastic, and–best of all–PDM students were eager to prove themselves.

Yukti 2012 was a three days annual management festival organised by TSM. This year is the college’s “golden jubilee”, so it was a special occasion for them also. The theme was “Explore the Unexplored India”, focusing on rural India.

PDM students participated in several different events. The students from PDM 12 participated in five events: business quiz, human resource management competition, best management team event, survival or surrender, and rural marketing. Seema (PDM 12) joined Yogesh, Anurag, Sandeep, and Ravi from PDM 11 in the product launch competition. Shweta (PDM 12) performed excellently in her individual human resource event; she confirmed a seat in the final round. In the product development event, TDA students performed well in all four rounds. In the final round they developed a product and launched it on the last day of the main event. Our team got the first prize for the product launch event!

Yukti 2012 was a unique event when students came to participate in different competitions and try to understand the complexities of organizing these types of management festivals and events. More than competition and enjoyment, the whole three-day process was enriched with many lessons. Students had a chance to interact with students from different colleges; they shared their experiences with other students, and also got updates of the business world. TDA students actively participated in all the discussions, expert lectures, and panel discussions. They raised different dimensions of development which brought value additions in all the discussion processes. On the last day of the event, students met with old TSM friends who had visited the Academy earlier, shared their experiences, and made promises to continue sharing knowledge among themselves.

This was a memorable event for all the TDAites. Especially for PDM 12, it was an eye-opening experience where they had a chance to closely observe 42 teams from different colleges and compete with them in different events. Everyone had a great time and understood many of the basic aspects of event management. It was a great chance for students to explore the unexplored side of their respective knowledge, skills, and attitude.
